Last summer I spent two weeks on the island of Bonaire. Located in the Caribbean Netherlands, it is world renowned for its excellent scuba diving sites.

We stayed in a villa a couple hundred feet from the Ocean. These first few shots were taken from inside the gates of the villa.

On our second day there, my sister and I completed our dive classes and became certified divers. By the end of the trip I had 20 dives under my belt!

The next few photos were taken from the dock of the dive center where we completed our first open water dives – less than a minute walk out our front door.

After a few days of diving, I felt comfortable enough maneuvering under the water to try taking some photos on a GoPro. They aren’t perfect shots, but I am damn proud of them! It’s not easy to take photos while diving, and editing them was quite challenging as well.

The waters there were unbelievably clear and the view of the shoreline from above was absolutely breathtaking. Here’s some of my favorite shots, taken at various dive sites throughout the island.

One of my favorite things about the island were its unique flowers & plants, many of which I had never seen before. I made sure to carve out some time on land to capture the various flora.

I even ran across some iguanas hanging out on top of shipping containers!

Special thanks to my mom, for taking us on this wonderful trip, and for investing in some gear for me to use on future dive trips, specifically for when I study abroad this coming spring in Australia!

& to Chad, for getting my mom into diving in the first place, letting me use his GoPro.. and for keeping his cool when I took it snorkeling without the housing and discovered that it is not waterproof in salt water.
